Raamla was born and raised in Los Angeles by her Somalian father and her South Bronx-ian mother. After graduating from Columbia University with a double major in English Literature and Film Studies, Raamla remained in NYC to work in off-Broadway theater. She then went on to receive her MFA in Writing for Film and Television at the University of Southern California where she was awarded the Frank Daniel Scholarship and the Annenberg Fellowship. Not long after graduating, Raamla became an assistant on Grey's Anatomy. She was soon promoted to researcher on Off the Map and then began research on a pilot called Scandal. After finishing the first season of Scandal, she became one of only eight writers selected to participate in the Disney/ABC Writing Program. At the beginning of season two, she became a full time staff writer on ABC’s Scandal. Currently, she serves as a supervising producer on the show as well.
