The show chronicled a group of slaves in 1857 Georgia, who escape bondage to find freedom, with the help of members of the Underground Railroad, and most notably the show was the first ever scripted US television show to focus on slavery, let alone the Underground Railroad.Underground broke ratings records for WGN during its first season by outpacing the network’s prior season ratings by 508 percent in total viewers and 1,005 percent among adults 18-49 in live-plus-seven viewing. The show has honored with a number of recognitions including four NAACP Image Awards nominations including Outstanding Drama Series. Additionally, the African American Film Critics Association named Underground as Best TV Show (Cable/New Media) and the second highest show overall for 2016. The series was nominated for a TCA Award for Outstanding New Program by the Television Critics Association and was a finalist for the Cynopsis TV Awards in the categories of Best New TV Drama, Best TV Drama, Best Series Writing, and Best Showrunner. Season two was equally as well received and reviewed. HBO recently announced that Misha and Jordan Peele are teaming up on LoveCraft Country, a one hour anthological horror-drama series that was given straight-to-series order. J.J. Abrams will also executive produce. In addition to being an executive producer, Misha will serve as the writer and showrunner of the series. The show will be based off of Matt Ruff’s 2016 novel which is set in 1950’s Jim Crow America and is centered around 25 year-old Atticus Black who embarks on a cross country trip to find his missing father. Along the way he and his traveling companions face unrelenting horrors and racism creating a thrilling journey that is told in way that is aimed at reclaiming genre storytelling from the African American perspective. Most recently Netflix made a seven-figure deal to buy Misha’s feature spec script, The Mother, an action story in the vein of The Professional and Wanted, about an assassin who will stop at no costs to save the estranged daughter she gave up years prior. Misha will also serve as a producer on the project. Misha is bold in her writing and producing and has been unwavering in her efforts to continuously deliver audiences captivating television that hones in on hot button issues such as racism and resistance. With the percentage of African-American females creating television shows still a remarkably small number, at the age of 32 Misha is already making a big splash.
